Winter trip around Saxony 2022
On the eve of Christmas, the group of the SEM students made a 1-day sightseeing trip to Dresden and National Park Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland). During this tour, students visited the Bastei and city of Dresden.
The rock formation in Saxon Switzerland – is the most popular excursion destination in the region. The Bastei is the most popular tourist attraction. From the bastion lookout there is a unique panorama with views of numerous sights such as the Lilienstein and the Königstein. A 76.5m long bridge runs through the rock formation. From the Bastei Bridge in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains you can also enjoy a fantastic view.
Dresden (founded in 1206) is the state capital of the Free State of Saxony. Dresden is the second largest Saxon municipality, after Leipzig, and the twelfth largest city in Germany in terms of population.
Students visited the touristic area of Dresden which is internationally known as a cultural center with numerous important buildings, such as the baroque Zwinger, outstanding museums, such as the Old Masters Picture Gallery, famous orchestras, such as the Saxon State Orchestra or the Kreuzchor, Frauenkirche at Neumarkt, the Semper Opera House and the Court Church, as well as the Residence Palace. The Striezelmarkt, founded in 1434, is one of the oldest and most famous Christmas markets in Germany.
Construction site visit
The SEM students under the supervision of the HTWK Professor Mr. Yaarob Al Ghanem visited the construction site of the Züblin construction company in Leipzig. The main purpose of the visit is study the topics: cast-in-place concrete and watertight concrete structures. Students have got some theoretical introduction and it's practical application.
HTWK Autumn Grill 2022
In October 2022, the SEM students participated in the traditional faculty event - the Autumn Barbecue, organised by the Student Council of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Many students and professors took part in this party. The participants enjoyed traditional German drinks, snacks, sausages from the grill, music, international communication and great vibes.
Matriculation ceremony at the HTWK Leipzig 2022
At the beginning of each winter semester, the ceremonial matriculation of first-semester students took place at the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig.
With this event, the HTWK Leipzig welcomes the newly enrolled students into its academic community every year.
In the year 2022, the new matriculation is welcomed at the HTWK Leipzig - together with students, guests from science, business, politics and administration as well as members of the university.
Music by the HTWK Orchestra as well as this year's awards and prize ceremonies are the highlights of the celebration event.
HTWK welcomes new international SEM students!
In the academic year 2022/2023, HTWK welcomes Master's students from the partner universities in China and Vietnam: Suzhou Institute of Technology of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Changzhou University, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, Jiaxing University, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport. HTWK offers various support measures to help new-coming students with easy start in their studies and adapt in a new environment. At the welcome event, the head of the SEM programme, Professor Klaus Holschemacher, gave a detailed presentation of HTWK Leipzig and the SEM programme. The representative of the SEM partner organisation DCG Halle e.V., Ms Sybilla Löbnitz, clarified many organisational questions, and the manager of the SEM programme, Dr. Oleg Krikotov, explained some details of the programme plan and first steps towards starting the studies. The students received a lot of information about the study and life in Leipzig.
Spring tour to the National Park "Sächsische Schweiz"
In March 2022, the group of the SEM students made a 1-day sightseeing trip to Dresden and National Park Sächsische Schweiz (Saxony Switzerland). This travel has been organized and guided by the SEM manager Dr. Krikotov.
In Sächsische Schweiz students visited a cozy town Königstein and Festung Königstein (Fortress Royal Stone), which are located near Dresden, on a mountain on the left bank of the river Elbe.
Festung Königstein is a real collection of highlights.
The entrance to the fortress is a complex system of bridges and tunnels. And behind the high wall is a small town of many buildings, streets and squares; inside of buildings of the citadel, there are expositions devoted to the history of the fortress, its daily life, inhabitants, ancient weapons, and royal utensils.
In Dresden, students walked around the tourist area, King’s Palace, and the bank of the river Elba.
Multilingual Dubbing Competition of Changzhou University "Actors in Position"
Sponsored by the International Exchange Community of Changzhou University (China) and co-named after the HTWK Leipzig, the final of the third Multilingual Dubbing Competition of Changzhou University "Actors in Position" was successfully conducted in the X1 terrace classroom by the West Taihu Lake on December 11, 2021.
Professor Holschemacher, academic director of the SEM program at HTWK Leipzig, sent a congratulatory video to the participants.
Finally, seven teams won the awards. This activity promoted the formation of students' cross-cultural ideas and contributed to the international atmosphere on campus.
HTWK Leipzig Autumn Grill
On October 27, 2021, the Student Council of the Faculty of Civil Engineering organized the traditional event - the Autumn Barbecue. SEM students were also invited to participate in it. Many dozens of students and professors participated in this event. The participants enjoyed drinks, snacks, traditional German sausages from the grill, music, communication and a cool atmosphere.
Festive enrollment 2021
Every year, the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig) welcomes newly enrolled students to its academic community with a ceremonial matriculation.
On October 11, 2021, HTWK Leipzig welcomed the new students during a ceremonial matriculation at the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig.
During the ceremony, the Major of the Leipzig City, Burkhard Jung, rector of HTWK Leipzig, Professor Mark Mietzner, and many other honorable guests made their welcoming speech.
During the ceremony, the HTWK Leipzig students’ orchestra played a beautiful classical music.

This time, in the heavy circumstances of the world pandemic, HTWK Leipzig welcomes Master students from two Chinese partner universities: Changzhou University and Jiaxing University. To help students get off to a successful start in their studies and quickly settle into the university community, HTWK offers a range of support and assistance services. At this welcome event, the Head of the SEM program, Professor Klaus Holschemacher, made a detailed presentation about Leipzig, HTWK Leipzig and SEM program. The representative of the SEM partner organization DCG Halle e.V., Ms. Sybilla Löbnitz, clarified many technical and organizational issues, and the Manager of the SEM program, Dr. Oleg Krikotov, explained some details of the program plan and first steps to kick off in study. Students received a lot of information about studying and living in the city of Leipzig.
In addition to the presentations, students were guided on a tour around the HTWK Leipzig campus.
